Winter break is music to any college student’s ears. Whether you just finished your first semester of college or your final semester of college, congratulations! I hope you take the time to celebrate your victories and keep in touch with your college friends. If you’re looking for ideas on how to maximize your time during winter break, the Student Services staff at EFSC has some great ideas. Enjoy this “winter break guide”:
Try a Tabletop Role-Playing Game
Video games are great, but during winter break, you have a chance to meet up with friends and family a bit more. Instead of having forced conversations or playing Canasta, try playing Dungeons and Dragons or Fate. All of these games allow you to get lost in your imagination!

Reach Out to Friends and Loved Ones
Whether you’re dashing off to holiday parties, buying presents, cooking food or finally doing projects around the house that you haven’t had any time for, it’s important to slow down and remind yourself how much the people in your life mean to you. Reach out to family, friends and co-workers, and let them know. A simple “thinking about you and how much you mean to me” message can go a long way — and you know it’ll put a smile on their face!

Try a New Fitness Class
Working out can be a great way to de-stress. Even without classes, winter break (and the holidays) can still be stressful. You might find something you love that you can build into your spring term routine.

Travel
No matter if it’s near or far — go somewhere! We often get so wrapped up in the daily grind that we don’t budget our time to get out and experience something new. There’s a whole world out there waiting for you. Live in it!

Start the New Year Fresh
Take all of the clothes out of your closet. Go through them, and donate anything you don’t wear to Titan2Titan. When you put the clothes you’re keeping back in the closet, place them backwards so the hanger faces out. Next year, it’ll be obvious which ones you still haven’t worn (and easier to figure out what to donate).
–Dawn, Enrollment Marketing
Set Goals for Spring
These goals don’t have to be official New Year’s resolutions, but they can be made to benefit your resolution throughout the year. If your New Year’s resolution is to meet more friends at the College, your goal could be to join a new club or organization. Get involved!

Be in the Moment
Life gets busy, even during winter break. Take at least 10 minutes a day to just enjoy the moment. Put down your phone and go on a walk, or take some time to journal. Even stopping what you’re doing to take some deeps breaths can help bring you peace when you’re feeling stressed.

Order Those Transcripts
New students should use the winter break to order their outstanding official transcripts from their high schools and other prior institutions. Hit the ground running for Spring Term!

Take Photos
This may sound obvious, but it’s easy to forget to take pictures during the winter break hustle! What better time to create tangible memories than when your relatives are gathered together and/or all dressed up? Later, it’ll feel really good to look back at the pictures you took and remember exactly how you felt that day.

Volunteer
‘Tis the season to volunteer! My favorite winter break pastime is to hand out blessing bags to those less fortunate. These bags are filled with toiletries, beanie hats, socks, a few snacks and inspirational quotes to bring hope and joy to those who need it. No matter who you are or where you come from, everyone is worthy of being loved or hugged. As Shirley Chisholm once said, “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.”

Check Your Message Center
Be sure to check your message center and Titan email for important messages from Financial Aid over winter break! Need some help? Watch this quick video on how to check your Financial Aid documents.

Update Your Resume
The holidays are a great time to volunteer or learn a new skill. Use extra time over your holiday break to add these experiences to your resume. Need helping getting started? Learn what NOT to do on a resume.

Breathe
It may sound simple, but when we get busy we sometimes hold our breath. When we slow down our breathing, it helps our bodies to better cope with stress. Give breathing exercises a try when you’re feeling overwhelmed.
